Fall is here?!

Isn't it weird that 80 degrees with 52% humidity feels like a deliciously cool Florida fall day?

It was much cooler this morning, so cool that the kids in Dane's class mostly had on pants and sweaters... I was like, you all know it's going to be 80 degrees an about an hour, right?

Dane is really getting into school... I try not to pry because whenever I ask too many questions he shuts down, but if I play it cool, once and awhile he'll announce something about music class, or "magic soap," or about how one of his teachers lives in a house!! He also thinks the other two live at school and don't have homes. Poor teachers. They really should be paying them more.

emergen-c was not my friend this time

"Can you play with trains?"

The only downside of a successful playdate, is that Dane seems to forget how to play independently for the next 1-4 days. Yes, I can play with trains. But no, I cannot play with trains for 100% of the day. I still need time for other things, like visiting the restroom. I think I've heard "Can you play with trains?" at least 100 times today.

I also should be studying. I have my first exam tomorrow night. All I know is that it's 200 questions and that it's on the skin, bones, and muscles. Sounds thrilling, I'm sure!

Anyway, we had an awesome weekend. Last week was rough, as both Dane and I caught something from his pre-school, something that shot his temperature up to 102-- which NEVER happens so you know it was a shock to the system. Dane missed school both Tuesday and Thursday, I had a presentation to do in class on Tuesday night, a test to study for (tomorrow), some random knitting project that I needed to put some time into, and we had a big weekend planned. Since we were sick we called off the weekend-o-fun, only to realize on Saturday that we were feeling better (and could not bear to be cooped up in the house any longer) so we reactivated our Sunday plans, and I'm so glad!

On Sunday we drove down to Cocoa Beach to meet Susie, Keith and Jack for the day. It was long drive... that wasn't an issue, but a 45 minute Publix pitstop was an issue... the deli ladies kept insisting that our order of popcorn chicken would be "just three more minutes" for almost an hour. It was harsh! We were soooo close to the beach yet so far, with just chicken standing in our way. Finally we had the chicken in hand (which was delicious, so I guess it was worth it) and made it to the beach.

We really need to see the Raskins more often... the kids play so well together and we all get along so well... pity we don't live less than 3 hours apart! But fun beach mini-vacations are in the works. That makes us happy!

Here's to a more normal week in progress. After I take this test I need to chill....

sunny, with a chance of freak downpours

If you would like it to rain, just go ahead and water your tomatoes on a sunny day.

The forecast called for rain today but it was completely sunny up until 20 minutes ago, after I came back inside after watering my new tomato plants. Then the sky immediately clouded over and the wind blew so forcefully that a huge chunk of gutter-gunk was upended off the roof, flew through the air, and landed smack on the windshield of the car-- parked in the driveway. That was cool. And it rained a lot.

Arghhh my tomatoes. I really want them to make it. I have regular roma tomatoes and then an heirloom variety called Black from Tula that is supposedly smoky and salty. We also have a few herbs that may or may not be doing so well. It's hard to tell. Nature's ways are too vague for me sometimes.
